MY father’s Journey

This series concludes a project I did on Memories showcasing my father’s journey growing to be the man he is today, each board representing a monumental stage in his life.

• The first represents his initial journey coming from Vietnam to the UK, with the layers being of different destinations he came across.

• The second and third board represent his youthful days in his boarding college in Wales, making new but temporary memories with friends he thought were lifelong before climbing his way up the ladder of success.

• The fourth and fifth were both painted in acrylic, with the intention of being more vibrant to show a more recent and happier period of his life, where he meets my mother in Vietnam before settling down to start a family.

To add relief to the compositions I painted the individual layers, then stuck them over with foam board between to create the harsh shadows I associate with the flash of old photographs.
